I met a man named Steve Lan, who also goes by the last name of Chen, on match.com. He quickly started a conversation with me and moved it to a personal number. He seemed to be a trustworthy and intelligent man. He claimed to be a professional engineer that had to travel often in order to overlook projects.
Around the same time that we met, he was assigned to a job in Dubai. Everything seemed to be going great for the first month, then he started complaining about his bank account. He claimed that his expenses were exceeding his account limit because there were not any American banks in Dubai.
He tried to fly back to the United States, but he could not afford the expenses since his travel agent messed up his flight. He got pushy with me and said that he only had one week to get back to the United States. I hesitated to help him because he was asking for a lot of money. $10,000 to be exact. Then one day he insisted that I send him $8,700 in order to get home or I would never see him again.
I could live without.
He was clearly trying to get money out of me. Who knows, he probably is not even a professional engineer.
